Mercy Men Outmuscled by NYIT

MERCY MEN OUTMUSCLED BY NYIT

The Mercy College men’s basketball suffered a 91-60 loss at NYIT in front of 95 fans tonight. Mercy falls to 1-20 (1-13 East Coast Conference), while NYIT improves to 10-11 (7-7 ECC).


Leading the Mavericks was defending ECC Rookie of the Week Bryan Van Cott (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Oyster Bay), who scored a team-high 15 points. Tyler Jones (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) added 11 off the bench, while Ed Wilson (Bronx, N.Y./Msgr. Scanlon) contributed nine.

In the first half, the game see-sawed back and forth, as NYIT took a 39-34 lead at the break. The game was close, with NYIT shooting 50%, and Mercy 40.6%.

The second half, however, was a different story. Mercy struggled, shooting just 24.2%, as NYIT improved its shooting to 55.9%. NYIT also dominated on the boards, outrebounding Mercy 54-29. NYIT out-scored Mercy 62-12 in the paint, and 23-8 in second-chance opportunities.

Mercy continues its three-game road trip, and will play at Dowling on Saturday, February 6.
