FLUSHING, N.Y. -- Junior college transfer Hasaan Powell (Bridgeport, Conn./Iowa Central CC) scored 24 points to lead the Mercy College men's basketball team, despite the 78-60 loss to Queens College in East Coast Conference action, Saturday night at Fitzgerald Gym.
Powell shot 9-for-19, 6-for-9 from the free throw line. The junior guard also added four assists.
Rookie swingman Bryan Van Cott (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Oyster Bay) had eight points for a second-best team high.
In the second half, the Knights just outscored the Mavericks by three points.
With the loss, the Mavericks fall to 1-10 in the conference and 1-17 overall. The men will be back in action and looking to rebound from their loss on Wednesday, Jan. 27 as they take on the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans at 7 p.m.
