Third-Straight Game, Mercy Loses 113-75 To C.W. Post

Junior Hasaan Powell sinks 20 points, 10 from the free throw line.
DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Junior college-transfer Hasaan Powell (Bridgeport, Conn./Iowa Central CC) recorded 20 points, 10 off free throws, despite the Mercy College men’s basketball team’s 113-75 loss to C. W. Post on Saturday afternoon in East Coast Conference action on their home court.
Powell shot 5-for-13 from the floor and 10-for-12 from the charity stripe en route to his 20 duckets. Aiding Powell was fellow guard Ed Wilson with 16 points. Wilson (Bronx, N.Y./Monsignor Scanlan) shot 7-of-14; 2-for-5 from behind the 3-point arc. Junior Jimmy Gunville (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater Raynham) and rookie Tyler Jones (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) also shot in double-digits. Gunville’s points came from outside the 3-point arc as he put down 4-of-8 treys. Jones spread his points over 2-for-6 from long range, 3-for-7 overall. Jones also added a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line.
Powell also led the Mavericks at the boards with 10 rebounds, recording his first double-double of the season.
The Pioneers were led by junior forward Aaron Hall (Syracuse, N.Y.) and junior guard Gilbert Montalvo (Astoria, N.Y.) who each scored 19.
The Mavericks will return to the road next week after three-straight games at home. Mercy College will travel to University of Bridgeport on Wednesday, Jan. 20. The men will tip off following the women at 7 p.m. at Harvey Hubbell Gym.
