Mercy Men Fall to Queens
The Mercy College men’s basketball team fell at the hands of the Queens College Knights 108-82 on Wednesday night, February 17, before 123 fans at the Mercy College Gym.
Queens improves to 14-9 overall, and 11-6 in the East Coast Conference, while Mercy falls to 1-24 and 1-17.
Both teams came out shooting well in the first half, as the Knights made 55.8% of their shots and the Mavericks 53.1%. That slight difference was not reflected in the halftime shore, which read 58-44 in favor of Queens. Queens outrebounded Mercy 50-22.
In the second half, Queens continued to extend its lead, and won
the game by 24.
All five Maverick starters scored in double digits. Leading Mercy
was Ed
Wilson (Bronx, N.Y./Msgr. Scanlon), who made 10 of his
17 shots, totaling 24 points. Jimmy
Gunville (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) was hot
from behind the arc, hitting six threes for 18 his points. Tyler
Jones (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) added 14, Bryan Van
Cott (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Oyster Bay) 13, and Manny
Garcia (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) 11.
Next up for Mercy is a Saturday date at 3:00 p.m. at St. Thomas
Aquinas.
