Before Mercy: Played basketball for four years at Oyster Bay, where he was a captain for three years … his team was ranked No. 3 (Class C) in the country … averaged 26.4 points per game during his junior year … shot 90% from the free throw line in his senior season … during his senior year, the team won the Nassau County Championship, the Long Island Championship, South East Regional Championship and reached the Final Four in New York State, with the last three accomplishments coming as the first in school history … Van Cott during his sophomore season was named to the All-conference team … during his junior campaign was tabbed to the All-county, All-Long Island and All-state squads … during his senior year was named to the All-county, All-Long Island and All-class teams.
