Mercy College Men's Basketball Drops Contest to Felician 82-65
CALDWELL, NJ
- The Mercy College men's basketball team was
defeated by Felician at the ECAC Holiday Classic by a score of
82-65 on Sunday.
Sophomore guard Ed Wilson
(Bronx,
NY) led the way for the Mavericks
with 18 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the floor. He also had five
assists and three steals. Senior guard Justin McMullen
(Brooklyn,
NY) scored 15 points and grabbed
nine rebounds. Senior guard Michael Marin
(Flushing,
NY) and sophomore guard
Jimmy Gunville
(Raynham,
MA) each had 11 points.
Felician (5-5) took an early 10 point lead (18-8) after a lay up by
Ryan Moseley. The Mavericks (0-9) responded by scoring the next
seven points on a three-pointer by Marin, a lay up by freshman
guard Luka Trekman (Ljubljana, Slovenia) and then
a pair of free throws made by Marin to cut the deficit to six
points with 7:47 remaining in the first half.
Felician shot 42 percent from the floor in the first half and took
a 14 point lead into halftime.
The Mavericks cut the deficit to 11 (43-32) with 16:14 remaining in
the second half after McMullen connected on a lay up. However,
Felician went on a 12-0 run to take control of the game. Ethan
Kennedy capped off the run with a jumper to give Felician a 57-34
lead.
The Mavericks trimmed the deficit to 13 in the final minute, but it
wasn't enough as Felician came away with the victory.
Felician had six players reach double digits in scoring. Devon
Young recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.
The Mavericks will be back in action when they take part in the
Pace Holiday Classic on Monday, December 29 at 8 p.m. against Pace.
The following day they will take on UMass Lowell at 4 p.m.
