Mavericks Fall to UMass Lowell at Pace Holiday Classic

PLEASANTVILLE, NY - Senior guard Michael Marin (Flushing, NY) netted 17 points, but the Mercy College men's basketball team was handed an 85-41 defeat at the hands of UMass-Lowell on day two of the Pace University Holiday Classic.
The River Hawks (8-3) led from start to finish, opening up a 13-2 margin in the first 3:34. The Mavericks (0-11) chipped away and pulled within five at 19-14 on a Marin layup, but UMass Lowell outscored Mercy 23-6 to close out the first half with a 42-20 lead.
UMass-Lowell came out of the break with another 18-3 run, capped by a Marcus Johnson three-pointer, stretching the gap to 60-23 and putting the game out of reach.
Marin connected on 6-of-17 from the field and 4-of-4 at the free throw line, while also pulling down a team-high seven rebounds. Sophomore Kortney Parker (Mt. Vernon, NY) added 11 points and five rebounds for the Mavericks.
Max Kerman registered a double-double for the River Hawks with game-highs of 19 points and 13 rebounds. Victor Colon chipped in with 16 points and eight boards.
Mercy College will return to action on Sunday, January 4 with another non-conference game at Philadelphia University. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
