CALDWELL, NJ -  Senior Justin McMullen (Brooklyn, NY) scored 18 points and sophomore Ed Wilson (Bronx, NY) added 16 points, but the Mercy College men's basketball team dropped a 94-61 decision to host Caldwell at the ECAC Holiday Classic on Saturday.

Mercy College (0-8) got the first hoop of the game, a layup from Wilson, but the Cougars then went on a 16-2 run over the next 3:50. After Caldwell stretched the lead to 24 at 33-9 on a three-pointer by Malcolm Austin, the Mavericks put together a 10-2 spurt, capped by a pair of free throws from McMullen that cut the margin to 16 at 35-19.

Caldwell (4-5) answered by scoring the final eight points of the first half to take a 43-19 lead into the break. Caldwell held the Mavericks to 26.7 percent shooting from the floor while making 56.3 percent of their own attempts in the first half.

Mercy College turned up the offense in the second frame, connecting on 57 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes, but the Cougars also shot 56 percent in the half. They built their lead to as many as 39 points before closing it out.

Wilson connected on 8-of-13 from the field and also dished out five assists. McMullen went 5-of-13 from the field and 5-of-8 at the free throw line.

Six Cougars scored in double-figures, led by a 15-point performance from Manny Perez.

The Mavericks will take on Felician on Sunday at the ECAC Holiday Classic. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
