ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY - Mercy College fell by a score of 65-47 in East Coast Conference (ECC) men's basketball action on Wednesday. The Mavericks are now 0-4 overall and 0-1 in ECC play while the Lions improved to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in the league.
Senior Michael Marin (Flushing, NY) paced Mercy College with 11 points. Sophomore Ed Wilson (Bronx, NY) added eight points, three assists and two rebounds.
The first 10 minutes of the contest saw six lead changes and a pair of ties. A jumper from Wilson gave Mercy an 11-10 edge at the 12:32 mark, but Molloy ran off eight straight points to take the lead for good. After junior Jason Charles (Brooklyn, NY) pulled the Mavericks to within five at 18-13, the Lions went on a 10-2 run to close out the first half with a 28-15 lead.
Molloy stretched the gap to 15 at 37-22 on a Brian Hutchinson jumper before the Mavericks scored seven straight points and trimmed the margin to eight after a Marin three-pointer. Mercy could pull no closer though as the Lions went on one more run to extend their lead to as many as 21 down the stretch.
Marin went 4-for-9 from the field, including 2-for-4 behind the arc. Wilson hit 4-of-10 on the night and Charles also chipped in eight points for the Mavericks.
Hutchinson registered a double-double for the Lions with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Mercy College will return to action on Saturday, December 6, at Dowling in another ECC contest.
