BLOOMSBURG, PA - All five starters scored in double-digits, but it wasn't enough as the Mercy College men's basketball team dropped an 86-69 decision at the hands of host Bloomsburg in a non-conference contest on Saturday.
Senior Michael Marin (Flushing, NY) and sophomore Ed Wilson (Bronx, NY) led the Mavericks with 14 points each. Senior Justin McMullen (Brooklyn, NY), sophomore Kortney Parker (Mount Vernon, NY) and sophomore Jimmy Gunville (Raynham, MA) added 12 points apiece.
Bloomsburg (2-2) jumped on top early on a dunk by Larry Webster for the first basket of the game. The Huskies then went on an 11-3 run over the next six minutes. Ronnie Benson wrapped up the first frame by nailing a three-pointer at the buzzer to give Bloomsburg a 39-25 lead at the break.
Mercy College (0-3) gave the Huskies a run in the second half, trimming the deficit to nine points twice, the last on a Wilson jumper that brought the score to 70-61. That would be as close as the Mavericks would pull as the Huskies stretched the lead back to as many as 19 at 86-67.
Dan Hoover led four Huskies in double-digits with a game-high 23 points and pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds. Ronnie Benson also recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards.
The Mavericks will return to action on Wednesday, December 3 when they travel to Molloy for the first East Coast Conference (ECC) game of the season.
