Mercy College Men's Basketball Topped by Bridgeport
DOBBS FERRY, NY - The
Mercy College men's basketball team was defeated by East Coast
Conference (ECC) opponent Bridgeport by a score of 90-50 on
Wednesday.
Sophomore guard Ed Wilson (Bronx, NY) led the
Mavericks with 12 points, while senior guard Justin
McMullen (Brooklyn, NY) recorded a double-double with 11
points and 10 boards. Senior guard Michael Marin (Flushing,
NY) and sophomore guard Jimmy Gunville (Raynham,
MA) each scored seven points.
Bridgeport (19-7, 13-4 ECC) began the contest on a 9-0 run with
three-pointers by senior guard Teairez Stennis (St. Louis,
MO) and sophomore guard Dave Boykin (White Plains,
NY). The Mavericks (0-26, 0-17 ECC) got on the board with
a trifecta from Gunville and then got two free throws from McMullen
to cut the deficit to four with 16:40 remaining.
The Purple Knights pushed its lead to 14 (21-7) by going on a 12-2
run, capped off with a lay up by junior guard Lee Frazier
(Millville, NJ).
The Mavericks went into the intermission trailing 40-23.
The Purple Knights came out firing in the second half and went on
an 18-2 run with three-pointers made by Boykin and junior guard
Steve Martin (Philadelphia, PA) to go up
60-25.
Bridgeport would further extend its lead from there as they came
away with the victory.
Boykin scored 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from behind the arc.
The Mavericks will finish up its regular season at home against
NYIT on Saturday, February 28 at 2 p.m.
