BRONXVILLE, NY - The Mercy College men's basketball team was defeated in East Coast Conference (ECC) action by Concordia on Saturday by a score of 72-54.

Sophomore guard Ed Wilson (Bronx, NY) shot 8-for-11 from the floor, totaling 18 points, five rebounds and three steals. Senior guard Justin McMullen (Brooklyn, NY) scored 12 points and grabbed seven boards. Junior guard Jason Charles (Brooklyn, NY) added nine points and four rebounds.

The Clippers (7-21, 5-11 ECC) snagged the lead (6-5) in the opening minutes after a three-pointer by junior guard Troy Young (Largo, MD). Concordia proceeded to go on a 24-6 run over the next six minutes of play to take a 30-11 lead.

With 1:21 remaining in the first half, the Mavericks (0-25, 0-16 ECC) trimmed the deficit to 17 when Wilson hit a jumper. The Blue & White, however, went into the half trailing 47-25.

In the second half the Mavericks fought back and went on an 8-0 run, highlighted by two buckets made by Charles to cut the deficit to 16. After the Clippers pushed the lead back up to 20, the Blue & White went on a 13-2 run to trail by only nine points with 4:11 remaining. During the run, McMullen scored six points.

However, that's as close as the Mavericks could get as Concordia finished the game on a 10-1 run.

Senior center Dan Cunningham (Ulster Park, NY) recorded a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds for the Clippers. Young added 15 points as well.

The Mavericks will be back in action at home on Wednesday, February 25 when they take on Bridgeport at 7 p.m.
