Mavericks Upended by Adelphi 76-47 in ECC Action
DOBBS FERRY, NY - The
Mercy College men's basketball team was defeated by East Coast
Conference (ECC) opponent Adelphi by a score of 76-47 on
Wednesday.
Sophomore guard Ed Wilson (Bronx, NY) led the
Mavericks with 15 points and added six rebounds and four assists.
Senior guard Justin McMullen (Brooklyn, NY) scored
12 points and grabbed nine boards. Senior guard Michael
Marin (Flushing, NY) contributed with 10 points.
The Panthers (17-7, 11-4 ECC) began the contest on a 12-0 run by
hitting four shots from downtown. The Mavericks (0-24, 0-15) got on
the board with a three-pointer by sophomore guard Jimmy
Gunville (Raynham, MA).
Adelphi went on a 10-1 run to push its lead to 20 points (27-7)
with 7:10 remaining in the first half. The Mavericks brought the
deficit down to eight points after a three-pointer and a pair of
free thows by Marin, followed by a trifecta by Wilson.
The Blue & White went into the intermission trailing 34-25.
The Panthers came out of the gates quick with a 13-0 run to start
the second half. Senior guard Alvin Vivican III (Brentwood,
NY) capped off the run with a three-pointer with 14:52
remaining.
Adelphi built its lead up to 29 (71-42) with 3:44 remaining when
sophomore guard David Akinyooye (Elmont, NY)
connected on a lay up.
Vivican scored 17 points, while Akinyooye added 13 for the
Panthers.
The Mavericks will be back in action when they travel to play
Concordia on Saturday, February 21 at 3 p.m.
