DOBBS FERRY, NY - Four Mavericks scored double-digits, but the Mercy College men's basketball team fell to visiting Dowling by a score of 85-68 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play on Wednesday.
Senior Michael Marin (Flushing, NY) led Mercy College (0-20, 0-11 ECC) with 20 points and pulled down a team-high five rebounds. Senior Justin McMullen (Brooklyn, NY) and sophomore Ed Wilson (Bronx, NY) each added 16 points. Sophomore Manny Garcia (Bronx, NY) chipped in 10 points.
The Mavericks scored the first four points of the contest, but Dowling (9-11, 7-4 ECC) responded with a 7-0 run. Mercy regained the lead at 8-7 after a pair of free throws from McMullen, but the Golden Lions answered again, this time with a 10-2 spurt that gave it a 17-10 advantage.
Mercy kept the pressure on and knotted the contest at 25-25 on a three-pointer from Marin with 8:09 to go in the opening period. Dowling then exploded for a 28-4 run, building the margin to 53-29 before settling for a 53-32 lead at the break after another Marin three-pointer.

The Mavericks began to chip away midway through the second frame. Trailing 73-51 at the 9:08 mark, Mercy went on its own 17-8 spurt that trimmed the deficit 81-68 with 2:41 to go. Garcia scored all 10 of his points to spark the run. That would be as close as the Mavericks could get though as the Golden Lions fended them off to put it away down the stretch.
David Seagers (Bronx, NY) led all players with 25 points, adding nine rebounds and a game-high seven assists for Dowling. Leonard Lans (Spring Valley, NY) registered a double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds, 11 of them coming on the offensive glass. Keith Nandin (Queens, NY) added 16 points, hitting four three-pointers.
Mercy College returns to action on Saturday, February 7 when it travels to take on C.W. Post.
