Mercy College Men's Basketball Topped by Molloy 86-61
DOBBS FERRY, NY - The
Mercy College men's basketball team dropped an East Coast
Conference (ECC) contest to Molloy by a score of 86-61 on
Saturday.
Sophomore guard Ed Wilson (Bronx, NY) led the way
for the Mavericks with 18 points, six boards and five steals.
Senior guard Justin McMullen (Brooklyn, NY) scored
16 points and grabbed six rebounds. Senior guard Michael
Marin (Flushing, NY) added 10 points.
The Lions (6-13, 5-5 ECC) scored the game's first 12 points, but
McMullen ended that run with a lay up to get Mercy on the board.
The Mavericks (0-19, 0-10 ECC) trimmed the deficit to seven (13-6)
after Wilson drained a lay up with 12:56 remaining.
After building the lead back up to 10 points, the Blue & White
cut the deficit to three (23-20) after another McMullen lay up with
4:07 left on the clock. However, the Lions came right back scoring
the next 10 points to build a 13 point lead (33-20).
The Mavericks trimmed the deficit to 11 (37-26) as the intermission
hit.
The Lions picked up where they left off and went on a 13-0 run,
capped off by a three-pointer by junior guard Carl Palmer
(Brooklyn, NY) to go up by 24 with 14:19 remaining in the
second half.
Molloy built the lead up to as much as 34 points, but the Mavericks
cut the deficit to 22 in the final minute.
Freshman forward Matt Wafula (Harlem, NY) scored
18 points on 8-of-11 shooting for Molloy. Sophomore forward
Brian Hutchinson (Elmont, NY) added 17 points and
nine rebounds.
The Mavericks will be back in action on Wednesday, February 4
against Dowling at 7 p.m.
