Mavericks Fall to Adelphi in ECC Action
GARDEN CITY, NY - The
Mercy College men's basketball team dropped an East Coast
Conference (ECC) contest to Adelphi University on Saturday by a
score of 89-47.
Senior guard Justin McMullen
(Brooklyn,
NY) scored 11 points and grabbed
four boards. Senior guard Michael Marin
(Flushing,
NY) added 10 points, while
sophomore guard Ed Wilson
(Bronx,
NY) contributed with nine points
and two assists.
The Panthers (11-4, 5-1 ECC) began the game with a 13-3 run, but
the Mavericks (0-14, 0-5 ECC) came right back with a 7-2 run of
their own.
Adelphi responded with a 12-2 run to take a 27-12 advantage after a
three-pointer by Richard Byrd. The Panthers took a 20 point lead
(39-19) into the half. Adelphi shot over 50 percent from the floor
in the first half.
The Panthers took their hot shooting into the second half as they
extended their lead on the strength of Byrd who shot 7-for-16 from
the floor.
Byrd scored 20 points, followed by Alvin Vivican who added 19
points.
The Mavericks held the edge from the charity stripe as they hit 20
shots, while Adelphi made 10.
The Mavericks will be back in action on Monday, January 19 when
they travel to play ECC opponent Queens.
