Mavericks Announce Non-Conference Men's Basketball Schedule for 2007-08

Iona Exhibition, St. Michael's Tourney highlight slate

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - Mercy College Head Men's Basketball Coach Tony Staffiere has announced the Mavericks' non-conference schedule for the 2007-08 season. A total of seven games, including a trip to the DoubleTree Doc Jacobs Classic hosted by St. Michael's, plus an exhibition contest versus Division I Iona College highlight this year's slate.  All non-conference games will be played on the road.

Staffiere, who was hired in June, will make his debut on November 6, when the Mavericks travel to take on the Iona College Gaels, a perennial Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) contender, in exhibition play at the Hynes Athletics Center.  Mercy will then take on St. Michael's in its tournament opener on November, 16, followed by a tilt with Franklin Pierce on day two of the event.

The Mavericks will square off against Nyack College on November 20, before opening East Coast Conference (ECC) play during the final week of November (full ECC schedule TBA). They will resume non-conference action and close out the calendar year with contests at Stonehill on December 20, LeMoyne on December 22, St. Anselm's on December 28, and Southern New Hampshire on December 30.

"We looked to add strength to our non-conference schedule, specifically on the road," said Staffiere. "We feel that traveling to venues such as St. Michael's, we will not only face tough opponents, but tough crowds. This should help prepare us for road games in the ECC as we get to January and February.  We also looked to get to areas along the East coast that we currently recruit from. We have players from Central New York, the Metro Boston area, and are looking to gain more exposure in northern New England. This not only gives the families a chance to see their sons play, but also prospective recruits can attend games closer to their homes."
