Mercy College Men's Basketball Adds Jimmy Gunville to Incoming Class for 2007-08
DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - Mercy College Head Men's Basketball Coach Tony Staffiere announced today that Jimmy Gunville (Raynham, MA) from Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School in Massachusetts has committed to attend the College and play men's basketball beginning in the fall of 2007. He joins guard Luka Trekman (Ljubljana, Slovenia) and forward Steve Siechen (East Syracuse-Minoa, NY) as Staffiere's first three recruits to commit since he was hired in June.
A 6-foot sharp-shooting guard, Gunville averaged 15 points per game, four assists per game and four rebounds per game. He once tied a school record for the most three-pointers in a single contest, hitting 12 from long range. Gunville was an Old Colony League All-Star selection and is a member of the Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School Hall of Fame.
"Jimmy can shoot it from anywhere on the floor and his high basketball IQ will make him a valuable asset for us this season," said Staffiere. "He has the ability to stretch a defense out. Driving lanes get wider and our wings should have more options when penetrating to the basket."
Staffiere inherited a relatively veteran squad that will return five seniors, four regular senior starters, and five players who started 13 games or more. The Mavericks' schedule will be announced later this summer.
