Mercy's Chanze Wellington Named to ECC Men's Basketball All-Conference Second Team
DOBBS FERRY - Mercy College senior guard Chanze Wellington (Spring Valley, NY) has been named to the East Coast Conference (ECC) Men's Basketball All-Conference Second Team. The league announced its award winners on Wednesday.
Wellington has received other honors during his collegiate career as well. This season he earned ECC Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors and was named to the PrestoSports/MBWA Honor Roll. He has also been named to the ECC All-Academic Team for two straight years.
Wellington averaged 12.3 points per game to lead the Mavericks this season and made 70 three-pointers, which led the conference. He also led the team in assists with 2.7 per game and was third in the conference in minutes played. He is 15th in the conference in scoring, 12th in assists, 13th in steals, and 1st in three-pointers made (4th in percentage made).
One of Wellington's best games of the season came against St. Michael's College when he poured in 22 points, including 4-of-8 from downtown, and grabbed eight boards. He lit up the scoreboard again against St. Thomas Aquinas College by scoring 21 points on 6-of-10 shooting from behind the arc. He also scored 20 points twice versus Queens College and Molloy College.
The criminal justice major finished his collegiate career with 1,021 points scored, which is good for 10th all-time among Mavericks. He is also 7th all-time in assists with 241 and 8th all-time in steals with 128.
The Mavericks' finished the year at 8-19 overall and 7-13 in ECC play, making a three-game improvement over last season in both columns.
