DOBBS FERRY, NY - Led by its seniors in their final home game, the Mercy College men's basketball team defeated Molloy College on Saturday afternoon by a score of 80-64. The victory improves the Mavericks' record to 8-16 overall and 7-10 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play, while keeping them in the hunt for an ECC Tournament spot.
Senior guard Chanze Wellington (Spring Valley, NY) led the Mavericks in scoring with 20 points and shot 6-for-8 from long range. Senior forward Keiron Guy (Brooklyn, NY) had 18 points, grabbed eight boards and collected two steals. Senior guard Paul Flowers (New York, NY) also registered 18 points and had six rebounds.

But the Mavericks stormed right back by hitting three trifectas in a row. First it was Wellington, then Michael Marin (Flushing, NY) and capped off by Justin McMullen (Brooklyn, NY) to go up 30-16.
The Lions (8-15, 6-11 ECC) cut the lead back down to eight on another Hutchinson lay-up, but Wellington responded a few possessions later with yet another three-pointer to go up 46-28. The Mavericks went into halftime leading 50-31.
Mercy came out cold in the second half, while the Lions put together a 16-4 run to cut the lead to eight (54-46). Guy ended the drought when he backed down his defender and connected on a strong lay-up.
With 9:34 remaining, Wellington was back at it again hitting back-to-back three-pointers to put the Mavericks up 67-54.
With 33 seconds remaining, head coach Tony Staffiere took his four seniors off the court to wrap-up their home careers playing at Dobbs Ferry.
