Mercy Men's Basketball Defeated by Adelphi, 74-37

            GARDEN CITY, NY - The Mercy College men's basketball team dropped a 74-37 decision to host Adelphi in an East Coast Conference (ECC) game on Wednesday, December 13.  Senior forward Devon Mirjah (Bronx, NY) led Mercy with 10 points. Junior forward Keiron Guy (Brooklyn, NY) added nine points. The Flyers are now 1-7 overall and 1-2 in ECC play. Adelphi improved to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the league.

            The Panthers raced out to an 18-4 lead, holding Mercy to just 1-of-5 from the field and causing eight turnovers in the first 7:45.

            Sophomore guard Michael Marin (Flushing, NY) hit a three-pointer for Mercy that cut the deficit to 11 points, but Adelphi continued its surge by outscoring the Flyers 19-7 over the final 10 minutes of the first half and took a 37-14 advantage into the break.

            Adelphi stretched the margin to 40-15 early in the second frame before Mercy went on an 11-4 run, keyed by five points from Chanze Wellington (Spring Valley, NY), that brought the Flyers to within 18 (44-26) at the 14:12 mark.

            The Flyers were able to close within 17 points at 47-30 after a Richard Stankowski (Jackson Heights, NY) jumper with 11:18 to go, but Adelphi closed out the contest by outscoring Mercy 27-7 over the final 10:58.

            Mirjah pulled down four rebounds and went 8-of-12 at the free throw line for the Flyers.  Guy and Stankowski each had five boards

            Adelphi's Kimani Blaize led all players with 22 points, while Mike Mosby registered a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for the Panthers.

            The Flyers will be off until January 3, when they take part in the Jim Clancy Memorial Tournament hosted by Dominican.  Mercy will first face the host Chargers before battling Bloomfield.
