Mercy College Men's Basketball Signs
Luka Trekman to National Letter of Intent

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - Mercy College Head Men's Basketball Coach Tony Staffiere announced today that Luka Trekman (Ljubljana, Slovenia) from The Master's School in Connecticut has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI).  Trekman will attend Mercy and play men's basketball beginning in the fall of 2007.  Trekman is Staffiere's second recruit to sign, joining Steve Siechen (East Syracuse-Minoa, NY) who previously committed to the Mavericks.

"Luka will be a very versatile player with his ability to play the point at 6-foot-5," said Staffiere.  "He possesses tremendous skill to shoot the basketball beyond the three-point line and to find the open man with precision."

Trekman averaged 18.6 points and 3.8 assists per contest last season after posting 15.4 points and four assists in 2005-06.  He received numerous honors throughout the last two seasons.  In 2007, he earned All-Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) honors.  In 2006, he was named team MVP at the Darien High School Invitational Tournament and CIAC honorable mention.  Trekman also played with the Overtime Athletics, an AAU team that went to the National Tournament in Florida, in 2006, and was a member of the National Slovenian Championship team in 2004.
