Mercy Men’s Basketball Picks off Panthers, 59-56, to Complete Series Sweep
GARDEN CITY, NY – Senior guard Chanze Wellington (Spring Valley, NY) scored a team-high 19 points to help lead the Mercy College men’s basketball team to a 59-56 victory at Adelphi on Wednesday. The win completes a regular season series sweep as the Mavericks also defeated the Panthers 47-46 back on January 5.

DOBBS FERRY, NY – The Mercy College men’s basketball team had three players reach double figures in scoring, but were defeated by the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) on Saturday by a score of 78-50. The Mavericks’ record drops to 6-16 overall and 5-10 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play.

Post by a score of 77-59 on Saturday. The Mavericks dropped to 4-12 overall and 3-6 in East Coast Conference (ECC) action, while the Pioneers improved to 14-2 overall and 9-0 in the league.

Raynham, Mass. - Mercy College (NY) freshman Jimmy Gunville recently won East Coast Conference (ECC) Rookie of the week honors. Gunville, a Bridgewater-Raynham graduate (’07), averaged 12 points per game for the week and hit a big three pointer from 25 feet out with 14 seconds left in a victory over Dowling. DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - Mercy College Head Men’s Basketball Coach Tony Staffiere announced today that Jimmy Gunville (Raynham, MA) from Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School in Massachusetts has committed to attend the College and play men's basketball beginning in the fall of 2007. He joins guard Luka Trekman (Ljubljana, Slovenia) and forward Steve Siechen (East Syracuse-Minoa, NY) as Staffiere’s first three recruits to commit since he was hired in June.
