Trend Setters Roll to Co-Rec Intramural Volleyball Championship
In the much awaited conclusion to the spring 2008 Mercy College Co-Rec Intramural Volleyball Tournament, the Trend Setters posted a 2-0 victory over Team Vault in the championship match on Wednesday.
The Trend Setters looked as though they might pitch a shutout in the first game, jumping out to a 14-0 lead, but Team Vault ended the run with two straight points. Team Vault eventually pulled within nine points at 18-9, but that would be as close as they would get as the Trend Setters put it away, 20-11.
Game two started off much the way the first did with the Trend Setters easing out to an early lead before Team Vault got warmed up. Despite a valiant effort by Team Vault, the Trend Setters proved to be too much in the end, sealing the title with a 20-8 triumph.
The team rosters for the tournament participants were:
Trend Setters: Natalee Carty, Claudia Miller, Raldino Powell, Justin McMullen, Lena Leite, Trevene Smith, Desentrie Allen, Camele Clarke, and Mariola St. Fleur.
Team Vault: Jibin John, Earl Pommills, Kevin Gibson, Peter Yarema, Janet Wong, Katelyn Klobus, Sasha Atkins, Crasheena Ward, Martha Perez, Jackson Jacob, Phil Abraham, Diana Bruzzone, Chioma Egbuchunam, and Mirlusca Montes
Two-Thirds: Jessica Davidson, Jason Guadagnino, Bobby Engelhard, Matt Anzivino, Justin McMullen, and Kim Curry.
Imagine: Jonathan Cohen, Samantha LaBella, Matt Walsh, Steve Marsar, Alicia Martin, and Amanda McPhee
Co-Rec Volleyball teams consisted of six players on the court, with three male participants on the court at all times and three female participants on the court at all times. Each match was played as a best of three games series with rally scoring to 20 in each game.
