Vince Jordan is Mercy's 2007 Hot Shot, Takes First Overall at Basketball Skills Competition

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -  Vince Jordan is Mercy's 2007 Hot Shot Champion, taking first place in the basketball skills competition.  Alumnus Nick Volchok, and Dave Joffe, a current student, tied for second overall, while staff member Steve McGuckin finished fourth.

Jordan jumped out to an early lead by taking first place in the speed dribbling segment with a time of 23.02 seconds. McGuckin was right behind him at 23.65, and D.J. Miereles placed third at 24.62.

The free throw contest was tight throughout, with half of the field hitting at least 12 of 15. Volchok prevailed with a near perfect round, going 14-of-15 at the charity stripe. Chaz Woods, Jimmy Gunville, and Jordan all connected for 13 free throws, while Eric Bernal and Tannyka Bent knocked down 12 each.

Jordan caught fire again in the three-point shoot-out, notching 21 points out of a possible 30 to all but seal the overall title.  Joffe hit for 17 points, and Bent and Gunville were the next closest competitors at 14 points each.

McGuckin finished first in the spot-shot competition, tallying 15 points in the 45-second round.  Woods took second in the segment with 10 points, and Joffe recorded nine points, but it was not enough to overcome Jordan, who's seven points insured the overall crown.

Mercy's next intramural event will be the Mercy tip-off classic, a three-on-three team basketball competition to be held on Friday, December 7.  Start time is to be announced.  Members of the Mercy College varsity basketball teams will not be permitted to participate.
