Tie-Dye United Squeezes out Mercy's Intramural Olympics Championship in Final Event of the Year
DOBBS FERRY, NY - In the final Intramural event of the year, Tie-Dye United pulled past VOEJ2 with a victory in the Sports Trivia segment to win the Mercy College Intramural Olympics, an event filled with unconventional skills competitions and races. The championship team consisted of Jessica Fabian, Ann Meenagh, Ben Latchford, Janet Wong, and Peter Yarema.
Tie-Dye United got off to a great start in the Frisbee Distance Toss when Latchford edged Jimmy Gunville. VOEJ2 came right back with a win in the team Potato Sack race which was a thrilling four-leg relay.
Tie-Dye United regained the lead with another point when it rallied in the final leg of the Hippity Hop relay race, and added another point with a big upset in the Tug-O-War.
VOEJ2 was not done yet though. After a tie in the Sit-Up competition to begin the Fitness Challenge segment, Vince Jordan clipped Pete Yarema by one in the Push-Up competition, and Justin McMullen's 23 pull-ups went uncontested to even the match at 3-3-1.
It all came down to the Sports Trivia Bowl where the students' minds were challenged with questions from the categories of soccer, football, hockey, baseball, basketball, college nicknames, golf, and a general all-sport selection. It was tight early on, but Tie-Dye United emerged midway through as the masters of obscure sports knowledge to win it all.
This was the last Intramural event of the 2007-08 year. Look for even more exciting events and competitions beginning in the fall of 2008.
