Morano Claims Student Crown in Chipping Championship; Sullivan Captures Faculty/Staff Title
DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - On a damp Friday morning at the Mercy College Intramural Golf Skills Competition, Steve Morano bested Luis Bido for the student division chipping title, while Bill Sullivan, interim co-athletics director fired past Drew Brown to win the faculty/staff division.
With Sullivan way ahead of the field at 45 total points through two rounds, Morano came up with the shot of the day in the third round, placing a wedge at the mid-range target 50 yards out to pull even in overall points. Sullivan answered though on the first shot of his third round, hitting the circle of the 25 yard target for an additional five points to put it away.
Participants competed for three rounds each, taking five shots at each of three target flags - 25 yards, 50 yards and 100 yards. Five points were awarded for a successful shot within the target circle at the near flag, followed by 10 points at the 50 yard flag, and 20 points at the 100 yard flag.
The 2007-08 Mercy College intramural season will come to a close with its final event, the Intramural Olympics, on Thursday, May 8, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Intramural Olympics will include a series of quirky skills competitions and races, a fitness challenge, and sports trivia.
