 Mercy Tip-Off Classic Champions - "Killer B"
Mercy Intramural 3-on-3 Championship Goes to "Killer B" on Buzzer Beater

In a hotly contested 3-on-3 basketball tournament, this year's Intramural Tip-Off Classic title was captured in thrilling fashion by "Killer B" on Friday, with a 12-11 buzzer-beating decision over "Team Joffe" in the championship game.  The event featured 10 teams with a total of 35 student and staff participants that played 19 combined games with an estimated 50 spectators in attendance.

The championship squad made up of Cory Bynoe, Malcolm Baker, Darryl Barfield, and Michael Summerville, used their four-man rotation effectively to sweep through the winner's bracket of the double-elimination format. After receiving and opening round bye, in their first game of the day "Killer B" defeated "Shock Treatment" 21-13 and followed up with a slim 18-17 decision over "Team Joffe" in their second game. They then ran past "A Righty, A Lefty, and A Switch" by a score of 20-7 to advance to the title game.  "Killer B" met up with "Team Joffe" again in the final round, which looked as though it would head for overtime, but Baker's jumper as regulation time expired broke an 11-11 tie and sealed the crown for "Killer B".

"Team Joffe" took the long route to the finals, opening up with a 15-14 decision over "GPAN" and breezed past the aging squad of "Three-fourths" 21-8, thanks in part to the mysterious absence of coach and team captain Jay Guadagnino. After getting bounced into the loser's bracket by "Killer B", "Team Joffe edged "T-Nation" 19-16, defeated "Shock Treatment" 31-19 in the highest scoring game of the day, and downed "A Righty, A Lefty, and A Switch" 24-22, to earn a spot in the title round.

This tournament concludes the intramural event schedule for the fall of 2007. A completed spring 2008 schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
