GAFFNEY, S.C. (Sept. 2, 2017) – Despite five saves from junior Cheradyn Pettit (Colorado Springs, Colo./Lewis Palmer) and a shot from junior Angela Robbins (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional), the Mercy College field hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision to ECAC Division II Field Hockey League foe Limestone College on Saturday afternoon at Saints Field.
The Mavericks (0-2, 0-2 ECAC) drop their second consecutive ECAC game to begin the season, while the Saints (2-0, 1-0 ECAC) have won two games in a row to begin the season.
Pettit played the full 70 minutes in goal to take the loss.
Limestone received two goals from Cassidy Coates and a goal from Thando Muchemenyi and Kate Norman. Tabria Cochran went the distance in goal and improved to 2-0 on the year.
The opening half saw the Mavericks battle the Saints and Pettit made four saves in the frame to keep the Saints scoreless. The teams went into halftime scoreless with Limestone holding a 6-1 edge in shots.
The hosts broke the scoreless tie in the 37th minute when Coates scored off an assist from Kate Remley to make it 1-0. It remained 1-0 until the 55th minute when Muchemenyi found the back of the cage to increase the Saints lead to 2-0.
Limestone added another goal in the 66th minute when Norman scored following a pass from Myrlin De Graaf, making it 3-0. The Saints tacked on their final goal with less than a minute to play when Coates scored again with help from Cameron Felch.
The Saints held a 15-1 edge in shots and a 15-4 advantage in penalty corners.
