Baseball Alum Chris Walpole Named Finalist for Journal News/Lohud Westchester/Putnam Softball Coach of the Year

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (June 15, 2017) – Mercy College baseball alum Chris Walpole has been named one of five finalists for this year's Journal News/lohud Westchester/Putnam softball coach of the year award. The coach of the year will be announced Monday, June 26th.

Walpole, a 1990 graduate of Mercy College and Mercy College Athletics Hall of Famer, is the Head Coach of Eastchester High School led the Eagles to a rally in the top of the seventh to beat Tappan Zee in the quarterfinals of sectionals, and held off Pearl River in extra innings in the semifinals to dethrone the three-time defending champions before falling to Lakeland in the championship game.

Walpole ranks among the baseball program's all-time leaders with a .374 career batting average, 210 hits, 153 runs scored, 123 runs batted in, 40 doubles, nine triples, 17 home runs and 61 stolen bases. Walpole attended Mercy on an academic scholarship and was named to the GTE Academic All-American team as a senior, earning his degree in criminal justice, with honors. Walpole was induced into the Mercy College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011.
