Murphy Tabbed ECAC Division II Baseball Rookie of the Year

DANBURY, Conn. (May 24, 2017) – Mercy College baseball sophomore Anthony Murphy (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Baseball Rookie of the Year, as announced by the conference earlier today.

Murphy earns the honor after being named ECC Co-Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-ECC. The one-time ECC Baseball Player of the Week and the two-time ECC Honor Roll recipient led the Mavericks with a .357 batting average, a .558 slugging percentage, a .439 on base percentage, 46 hits, 23 RBI, four home runs, 72 total bases and recorded eight doubles. Murphy earned ECC Player of the Week awards after he had a near perfect week at the plate, going 6-for-7 (.857) on the week with two RBI. The sophomore came off the bench in the opening game of the doubleheader and went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, followed by a 2-for-3 performance in the nightcap.
