Jesus Jaile Belts Second Home Run of Season in ECC Baseball Loss to C.W. Post
DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (April 24, 2012) – Sophomore first baseman Jesus Jaile (Hartsdale, N.Y.) belted his and the Mavericks' second home run of the season on Tuesday afternoon but the Mercy College baseball team could not keep up with East Coast Conference rival C.W. Post, falling 9-2.
C.W. Post improves to 22-15 overall and 12-5 in the ECC while Mercy slips to 6-31 (4-16).
The Pioneers struck first with an unearned run in the first inning but Mercy took the lead in the bottom of the frame. Junior right fielder Andrew Bock (Malverne, N.Y.) reached base on an error and with two outs, Jaile, who earlier this season hit Mercy's first long ball in nearly two years, belted a bomb to left field for his and the Mavericks' second home run of the season.
That was all the offense Mercy would muster as no Maverick would get past second base while the Pioneers took the lead back with a four-run third inning and tacked another four on before the end to win 9-2.
Bock led Mercy going 2-4 with a double and one run while sophomore Joe O'Neill (Long Beach, N.Y.) surrendered six runs (two earned) on seven hits and four walks while striking out four batters over seven innings.
Junior second baseman Angel Pimentel (New York, N.Y.) went 2-3 to lead the Pioneers, adding a walk, three RBI, one run and a stolen base while junior catcher Anthony Corona (Carmel, N.Y.) was 2-5 with two RBI and one run and sophomore left fielder Vincent Iacono (Nesconset, N.Y.) went finished 2-3 with a walk, two runs and an RBI. Junior Bo Budkevics (Deer Park, N.Y.) earned the win after striking out 10 batters while allowing just two unearned runs on three hits and a pair of walks. Junior Brian Tardif (Cutchogue, N.Y.) pitched a scoreless ninth, whiffing one.
Head Coach Bob Greiner and the Mavericks will host C.W. Post in a non-conference bout on Friday, April 27 at 1:00 p.m.
