Mercy Baseball Falls to Bridgeport, 7-4

The Mercy College baseball team lost a 7-4 decision to the University of Bridgeport on Thursday afternoon.

UB (24-10, 17-7 ECC) scored two in the first, and two in the third to build a 4-1 lead. Mercy (16-23, 9-15) had chances, but could never score more than one run in any inning. Mercy got as close as 4-3 with a run in the fourth inning.

Junior Charles Dehart (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter’s Boys) took the loss, hurling six innings while allowing just two earned runs. Leadoff hitter Graig Lauricella (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) scored twice on the day, while classmate Mike Ferrante (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) had three hits.

The Mavericks host UB for a doubleheader on Friday, May 6, beginning at 1:00 p.m. After the second game, Mercy will honor the eight seniors on the team on Senior Day. Ceremonies should begin around 6:00 p.m.
