Bill Sullivan Promoted to Associate Athletics Director, Steps Down as Head Baseball Coach

Bill Sullivan

DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College Director of Athletics Pat Kennedy announced the promotion of Bill Sullivan from Assistant Athletics Director to Associate Athletics Director for Internal Operations.  Sullivan also announced that he will step down from his position as Head Baseball Coach effective immediately.

"With the amount of growth the department has experienced over the recent years I will better serve Mercy College in a full time administrative capacity," Sullivan said.  "We are heading in such a positive direction; I am honored to have been offered this promotion and will dedicate myself to assisting the athletics program in its move forward.  Moving away from the baseball program was a difficult decision for me.  I have taken a tremendous sense of pride in the foundation that has been built over the years.  What I cherish the most has been the individual relationships that have developed.  What I anticipate the most is Mercy baseball's continuing work towards climbing the ranks of the East Coast Conference and beyond."

"I'm very pleased to have someone as talented as Bill on our administrative staff," Kennedy said. "I'm confident that he'll continue to do an outstanding job as a top administrator for our department, and I'm very happy that we are able to recognize and reward someone so loyal to our team at Mercy College."

Sullivan served as Head Baseball Coach for 15 years after three years as an assistant. During his tenure, Mercy College baseball teams recorded several double-digit win totals with a high of 17 in 2000. From 2000 to 2002, his squads registered 39 wins.  Sullivan recruited and coached numerous All-Conference and All-Academic players, including Brian Sweeney who went on to pitch with the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners, before moving on to play with the Nippon Ham Fighters in Japan's Pacific League.

Sullivan came on board full-time as Assistant Athletics Director for Internal Operations in February of 2006, and served as Interim Co-Director of Athletics for the 2007-08 academic year.  In his position he oversees and coordinates all internal activities associated with the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation. His responsibilities include management and scheduling of athletics facilities and team practices, operations and event planning on game days, and inventory control of all department equipment and supplies.
