The Mercy College baseball team fell to C.W. Post in a game played in Oakdale, New York, on Tuesday, April 27. The final score was 13-4.
In a game that was a makeup from a rainout on Sunday, the
Mavericks fell behind early and never recovered.
Mercy trailed 4-0 after three innings and 12-0 after seven. The
Mavericks pushed three runs across in the top of the eighth.
Catcher Marc Dern (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley
Stream North) led off the frame with a single. Two batters
later, Michael Ferrante (Long Beach, N.Y./Long
Beach) moved him to second with another single. A third hit
off the bat of Ken Mundy (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley
Stream North) loaded the bases and brought up the Mavericks leading
hitter, Matt Walsh (Staten Island, N.Y./St.
Peter’s Boys). Walsh worked a walk to force in Dern and put
Mercy on the board. Ferrante scored on an error and
Justin Muscarella (Plainedge,
N.Y./Island Trees) drove in another base runner with a walk of his
own. Mercy added a run in the ninth when Dern scored on a
fielder’s choice.
The Mercy nine return to the diamond on Wednesday, April 28 as they
travel across the Hudson to take on East Coast Conference opponent
St. Thomas Aquinas. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
