Bridgeport Takes Pitcher's Duel over Mavericks
WEST HAVEN, CT -
Junior pitcher Kenny Tyson (Miami, FL) threw a
complete game, allowing two runs and striking out five, but
Bridgeport hurler Derek Cotoni (Chelmsford, MA)
allowed just one hit over eight innings to edge the Mavericks 2-0
in East Coast Conference baseball (ECC) action.
Cotoni struck out seven batters and walked four, allowing his only
hit in the fifth inning to senior Ken Mundy
(Valley Stream,
NY).
Tyson held Bridgeport (13-16, 11-12 ECC) scoreless through the
first five innings, but in the sixth the Purple Knights struck for
two runs. Senior Mike Ferrera
(Delran,
NJ) stroked a two RBI double with
two outs to take a 2-0 lead.
Both pitchers held down the offenses for the rest of the game.
Freshman Matt Bartolomei
(Bridgeport,
CT) pitched the ninth to earn his
second save of the season.
The Mavericks (8-24, 2-19 ECC) will be back in action on Thursday,
April 30 when Post University visits Dobbs Ferry for a 3:30 p.m.
scheduled first pitch.
