Matt Walsh Earns NCBWA All-East Region Second Team Honors

DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College sophomore outfielder Matt Walsh (Staten Island, NY) added to his list of honors as he was selected to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-East Region Second Team. The NCBWA announced its honorees on Friday.

Walsh, a First Team All-East Coast Conference (ECC) selection, led the Mavericks and ranked among the league leaders in batting average (.395), slugging percentage (.535) and on base percentage (.485). The St. Peter's Boys High School graduate also led Mercy College in hits with 45, nine doubles, and 22 runs scored. He added 13 stolen bases and drove in 16 runs.

Walsh had 17 multiple hit games, including 3-for-4 performances against Adelphi, St. Thomas Aquinas and Bloomfield. He reached base safely in 29 of 34 games played this season.

Walsh also contributed on the mound. He tossed 11.2 innings with a 2.31 earned run average. In his only start of the year he went 7.1 innings, allowing two runs with seven strikeouts against Molloy. He was twice named ECC Player of the Week.

As a freshman Walsh was named to the ECC All-Conference Second Team.
