Matt Walsh Named to Baseball All-Conference First Team

DOBBS FERRY, NY - Sophomore Matt Walsh (Staten Island, NY) was named to the East Coast Conference (ECC) Baseball All-Conference First Team as an outfielder. The ECC announced its annual awards on Thursday.

Walsh led the team and ranks among the conference leaders in batting average (.395), slugging percentage (.535) and on base percentage (.485). The St. Peter's Boys High School graduate led the Mavericks in hits with 45, nine doubles, and 22 runs scored. He also stole 13 bases and drove in 16 runs.

Walsh had 17 multiple hit games, including 3-for-4 performances against Adelphi, St. Thomas Aquinas and Bloomfield. He reached base in every game of the season, with the exception of five games.

Walsh also made the most of the time he spent on the mound. He tossed 11.2 innings with a 2.31 earned run average. In his only start of the year he went 7.1 innings, allowing two runs with seven strikeouts against Molloy. He was twice named ECC Player of the Week.

As a freshman Walsh was named to the ECC All-Conference Second Team.
