Pioneers Defeat Mercy College Baseball in ECC Action
DOBBS FERRY, NY - The
Mercy College baseball team was defeated by East Coast Conference
(ECC) opponent C.W. Post by a score of 11-0 on Friday.
The Pioneers (10-24, 7-5 ECC) began the game with three runs in the
opening frame. Junior Kyle Walker
(Southbury,
CT) led off the game with a
triple to deep centerfield and then junior Bryan Bonin
(Commack, NY) drove him
in on a ground out. C.W. Post scored twice more in the inning on a
bases loaded walk and a sacrifice fly.
C.W. Post struck for two runs in the fourth inning on a sacrifice
fly by Walker and an RBI single by Bonin. The Pioneers added two
runs in the sixth, and three more in the seventh inning. The key
hit in the seventh was a two-run double by Walker to stretch the
lead to 10-0.
Freshman Billy Dring
(Mahopac,
NY) worked 2.1 innings in relief,
giving up two unearned runs on two hits.
Sophomore Mike Ferrante (Long
Beach,
NY) extended his hitting streak
to 13 games with a first inning single. Freshman Mike
Gianzero (Highland Mills,
NY) went 2-for-3.
Senior Mark Czerniawski (Glen Cove, NY) went the
distance allowing seven hits with eight strikeouts. Walker
collected two hits, three RBI and two runs scored.
The Mavericks (8-14, 2-9 ECC) will complete the three game series
at C.W. Post on Saturday, April 18 with a doubleheader beginning at
noon.
