DOBBS FERRY, NY - Junior left-hander Kenny Tyson (Miami, FL) went the distance and sophomore Matt Walsh (Staten Island, NY) went 3-for-4, but the Mercy College baseball team fell by a score of 5-2 to Adelphi University on Thursday.
Adelphi (18-7, 10-1 ECC) struck for a pair of runs on four singles and a base on balls in the first inning. Bill Melillo (Glenwood Landing, NY) forced home the first run with a bases loaded walk and Justin Ciamillo (Sayville, NY) followed with a run-scoring base hit.
Tyson fanned four batters in the next two innings, but the Panthers pushed across two more runs in the fourth to build a 4-0 lead. Thomas Harper (Nesconset, NY) had an RBI single and Craig Matteo (Herricks, NY) knocked in another with a sacrifice fly.
Adelphi made it 5-0 in the top of the sixth, taking advantage of an infield error and a wild pitch.

Three batters later, junior Marc Dern (Valley Stream, NY) laced a two-run single down the left field line, plating Tesoriero and Walsh.
The Mavericks could pull no closer as the Adelphi bullpen combined for four scoreless innings to shut the door.
Tyson finished with a season-high 10 strikeouts, allowing four earned runs on eight hits in his nine innings. Walsh had a double and a pair of singles. Tesoriero went 2-for-4 on the day.
