GARDEN CITY, NY - The Mercy College baseball team dropped a 7-4 decision at host Adelphi University on Thursday. The Mavericks are now 7-7 overall and 2-3 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play. The Panthers improved to 14-5 overall with their eighth straight win, and stayed perfect in the league at 6-0.
Sophomores Mike Ferrante (Long Beach, NY) and Matt Walsh (Staten Island, NY), and senior Ken Mundy (Valley Stream, NY) each collected two hits on the day for Mercy College. Senior Mike Grassano (Valley Stream, NY) knocked in a pair of runs.
Adelphi jumped out to an early lead, posting three runs in the bottom of the first, all with two outs. Ryan Boelsen drove in two runs and Billy Neubauer plated the third run.

The Mavericks got one back in the third on a run scoring fielder's choice by senior Chris Pannullo (Dix Hills, NY), but the Panthers put up four more in the fifth to build a 7-1 lead.
Mercy pushed across three runs in the seventh frame, cutting the margin to three. Walsh knocked in the first run with a bases loaded single and Grassano delivered another two-run base hit.
That would be as close as the Mavericks could pull though as the Adelphi bullpen tossed 2 2/3 innings of one-hit scoreless relief to close it out.
The Mercy bullpen was also strong as four pitchers combined for 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, yielding just two hits and two walks.
Mercy returns to action on Sunday, April 5 with a non-conference doubleheader at SUNY Institute of Technology beginning at Noon.
