Mercy's Craig Ross and Matt Walsh Named to ECC Baseball All-Conference Teams

DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College senior Craig Ross (Bellmore, NY) and freshman Matt Walsh (Staten Island, NY) have been named to the East Coast Conference (ECC) Baseball All-Conference teams.

Ross, a third baseman, was named to the First Team for the first time in his collegiate career. He led the Mavericks in batting at a .319 clip and hits with 42. He also scored 19 runs and drove in 14. During the course of the season, Ross had an 11-game hitting streak - the longest of any Maverick this season.

Ross was second on the team in extra base hits with 10 and led the club in slugging percentage (.415). He also played well at the hot corner with a .945 fielding percentage.

He went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored against Mount St. Vincent (3/1). In ECC action against New Haven (3/22) Ross was 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. And against Bridgeport (3/28) he collected two hits, two RBI and scored a run.

Walsh was named to the Second Team as an outfielder. At the plate, he batted .297 with team-best marks of 23 runs scored and 18 stolen bases in 21 attempts. He had eight doubles, eight runs batted in and a .395 on base percentage.

Against Bridgeport (3/28) Walsh went 3-for-5 with two RBI, two runs scored and three steals. In the final game of the series against Bridgeport, he collected two more hits, scored a run and picked up another stolen base. At Molloy (4/13), he went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two steals.

On the mound, Walsh had a 3.51 ERA with nine appearances, three starts and two complete games. He struck out 29 batters in 31.2 innings pitched and yielded only four extra base hits while holding opponents to a .186 batting average against him.

Walsh earned a victory against Concordia (5/3) in his final outing of the year by pitching a complete game, allowing two earned runs and struck out five batters. In relief against Dowling (3/26), he pitched 5.2 innings of one-hit ball with four strikeouts. He added another complete game against St. Thomas Aquinas, and allowed two earned runs and struck out eight.

The Mavericks (11-32-1, 7-19-1 ECC) finished the season with a nine-win improvement over last season.
