Mavericks and Knights Play to a 6-6 Tie in Extras

DOBBS FERRY, NY -  Every starter in the Mercy College lineup had at least one hit as the Mavericks played to a 6-6 tie with Queens College in East Coast Conference (ECC) baseball action on Friday. The contest was called due to darkness after 10 innings.

Freshman Graig Lauricella (N. Massapequa, NY) was one of five Mavericks with a pair of hits on the day, going 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a base hit. Freshman Matt Walsh (Staten Island, NY) and seniors Steve Summer (E. Meadow, NY), Craig Ross (Bellmore, NY) and Julian Tosado (Miami, FL) each added two hits. Freshman Justin Muscarella (Plainedge, NY) added a two-run single for Mercy.

Mercy (10-30-1, 6-17-1 ECC), the visiting team on the scoreboard, struck for a pair of runs in the top of the second when Lauricella delivered a two-run single through the right side with the bases loaded and two out.

Queens (11-22-1, 9-14-1 ECC) got one back in the bottom of the third on a solo home run from Jared Stoler, but the Mavericks responded with two in the fourth on Muscarella's single down the left field line to build a 4-1 lead.

The Knights answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to knot the game at 4-4. Stoler and Ed Hackimer plated runs with base hits and the other run came across on an infield error.

Mercy regained the lead in the sixth when Lauricella connected for his first collegiate round tripper with two outs, but Queens tied the game again at 5-5 in the eighth on a lead-off home run by Luis Rojas.

The Mavericks went ahead one more time in the ninth as Tosado delivered a sacrifice fly with one out, but Queens pulled the score to even again at 6-6 in the bottom of the frame on a Justin McKay RBI single.

Mercy threatened to regain the lead in the 10th, putting runners on first and third with two outs, but Queens reliever Joe Manfre got the final out without any damage.

Mavericks' reliever Matt Moreno (Harrison, NY) yielded a two out single in the bottom of the 10th, but also got the final out before the game was halted.

Mercy will return to action with a home doubleheader versus Concordia on Saturday, May 3, beginning at Noon.  The Mavericks will honor their six seniors in a special pre-game presentation.
