C.W. Post Takes Mercy Baseball 8-3
DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College baseball team fell by a score of 8-3 at the hands of visiting C.W. Post on Thursday. The Mavericks are now 10-26 overall and 6-14 in East Coast Conference (ECC) action, while the Pioneers improved to 22-20 overall and 13-7 in the league.
Senior Craig Ross (Bellmore, NY) went 2-for-4 on the day with a run scored and sophomore Vinnie Tesoriero (Glen Head, NY) was 2-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base. Freshmen Matt Walsh (Staten Island, NY) and Mike Ferrante (Long Beach, NY) each drove in runs for the Mavericks.
After three scoreless innings, the Pioneers sent 11 men to the plate in top of the fourth, scoring six runs on six hits. Kyle Walker belted a two-run home run to start the scoring. Bryan Bonin singled twice in the inning, including a two-run base hit with two outs to close it out.

The Mavericks got two back in the fifth, cutting the deficit to 6-2. Ferrante delivered a sacrifice fly that plated Ross after his lead off double and the Mavericks took advantage of an infield error for the other run.
Mercy trimmed the margin again in the seventh on an RBI single from Walsh, but they could pull no closer as the Pioneers added two runs in the ninth to put it away.
Keith Karlsen earned the victory for C.W. Post, going six and two thirds innings with nine strikeouts. Bobby Engelhard (Oceanside, NY) gave Mercy two innings of one-hit scoreless relief and Keith Kreig (City Island, NY) added one and a third innings of one-hit scoreless work.
The Mavericks return to action on Saturday, April 26, when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College in an ECC doubleheader beginning at noon.
