Ramapo Tops Mercy Baseball 10-6
MAHWAH, NJ - Mercy College collected 12 hits on the day, but fell short at Ramapo by a score of 10-6 in a non-conference baseball game on Tuesday. The Mavericks are now 10-24 overall, while the Roadrunners improved to 16-17 on the year.
Mercy got a run in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Roberto Martinez (Yonkers, NY) that plated Chris Sanchez (Spring Valley, NY).
Ramapo answered with three runs in the bottom of the first. Ryan Paxton knocked in the first run and John Callandrello added a two-run single to give the Roadrunners a 3-1 lead.
Ramapo added five more in the second inning on five hits and one Mercy error. The big blow was a two-run double off the bat of Mike Manges. The Roadrunners tacked on one in the third and another in the fourth to open up a 10-1 lead.

Mercy cut the deficit in the sixth when Julian Tosado (Miami, FL) scored from third on a ground out by Darold Martinez (Yonkers, NY). The Mavericks threatened a big rally in the ninth, getting RBIs from Graig Lauricella (N. Massapequa, NY), Steve Campbell (Staten Island, NY), Roberto Martinez, and Vinnie Tesoriero (Glen Head, NY) to make the score 10-6, but could pull no closer.
Mike Ferrante (Long Beach, NY), Sanchez, and Campbell each had two hits on the day for Mercy. Ramapo's Gino Gallagher went 2-for-2 with two runs scored while Ruggiero posted two hits.
Mercy will resume East Coast Conference (ECC) play at home on Wednesday, April 23, versus Queens College. It will be the first of six straight key ECC contests.
