Mercy College Baseball Falls at Dowling

BROOKHAVEN, NY -  The Mercy College baseball team was defeated by host Dowling College 19-1 on Wednesday. The Mavericks are now 10-19 overall and 6-9 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play, while the Golden Lions improved to 19-12 overall and 10-6 in the league.

Freshmen Matt Walsh (Staten Island, NY) and Steve Campbell (Staten Island, NY) had two hits each for Mercy. Junior Luis Bido (Bronx, NY) had the Mavericks' RBI and added a stolen base.

Dowling jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning and stretched the margin to 10-0 with four runs in the third frame.  The Golden Lions then tacked on three runs in the fourth, two in the fifth, and four more in the sixth.

The Mavericks got their run in the ninth when Bido drew a bases loaded walk with two outs, plating sophomore Mike Grassano (Valley Stream, NY) who led off with a walk.

Dowling put together 21 hits on the day, led by Colin Barnathan's 4-for-6 performance with four runs batted in and four runs scored.

Sophomore Travis Kolinoski (Bronx, NY) gave Mercy two innings of strong relief, allowing no runs and one hit while fanning two batters.

The Mavericks will look to bounce back on Thursday, April 17, when they host Felician in a non-conference game beginning at 3:30 p.m.
