Mavericks Fall to Southern Connecticut State, 11-0 and 6-1
LANTANA, FL - The Mercy College baseball team fell in both ends of a doubleheader to Southern Connecticut State on Friday, 11-0 and 6-1. The Mavericks are now 4-9 on the year.
Junior outfielder Chris Pannullo (Dix Hills, NY) went 3-for-6 on the day with a run batted in for Mercy. Sophomore catcher Marc Dern (Valley Stream, NY) was 2-for-4 in the opener and sophomore right-hander Frank DeRosa (Harrison, NY) gave the Mavericks two scoreless innings of relief.
Southern Connecticut State began game one with a run in the first inning and added five in the third after a two hour and 15 minute rain delay following the second inning. The Owls tacked on one in the fourth, three in the seventh, and another in the eighth to pull away.
In the nightcap, the two teams traded runs in the first inning and the game remained knotted at 1-1 until the fourth frame when the Owls posted four runs. They added another in the the sixth to seal the sweep.
The Mavericks are back in action at Bloomfield on Monday, March 17, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
