Mercy College Baseball Blanks St. Thomas Aquinas 5-0
BOCA RATON, FL - Freshman right-hander Anthony DiCarlo (Red Hook, NY) allowed only one hit and struck out six batters in eight innings to lead the Mercy College baseball team to a 5-0 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas College in a non-conference game between East Coast Conference (ECC) foes on Sunday.
The lone hit DiCarlo allowed was an infield single by the first batter he faced, designated hitter Chris Zapata. DiCarlo would face just two batters over the minimum as he induced three double plays over the first eight innings and improved to 2-0 on the year.
Mercy (3-5) broke through for a pair of runs in the top of the third inning on an RBI single from junior second baseman Ken Mundy (Valley Stream, NY) and an RBI ground out from senior third baseman Craig Ross (Bellmore, NY).
Ross delivered a run scoring single in the fifth and junior right fielder Chris Pannullo (Dix Hills, NY) gave the Mavericks a 4-0 lead with an RBI double.

Mercy added an insurance run in the ninth as freshman center field Matt Walsh (Staten Island, NY) walked, stole second base and scored on a pair of errors on the play.
DiCarlo gave way to freshman right-hander Alex Rodriguez (Miami, FL) in the ninth. Rodriguez worked out of a jam by getting a pair of strikeouts around a ground out to seal the win.
Pannullo finished the day 3-for-5 with an RBI and Mundy went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Mavericks.
Mercy will face St. Thomas Aquinas (5-5) again on Tuesday, March 11, at Lynn University. First pitch is set for 10:00 a.m.
