Briarcliffe Defeats Mercy College Baseball, 8-3

The Mercy College baseball team fell by a score of 8-3, at the hands of host Briarcliffe in non-conference action on Thursday, May 3.

Senior outfielder Joe Mercado (Orlando, FL) went 2-for-4 on the day with an RBI for the Flyers.

Briarcliffe struck first, posting three runs in the second inning on two hits and a Mercy error.  The Flyers (2-38) cut the lead to 3-2 in the third frame, getting runs batted in from Mercado and Jonathan Cohen (Roslyn Heights, NY), but Briarcliffe got them right back in the bottom of the inning to build a 5-2 lead.

After Briarcliffe added a run in the fourth, Mercy got a run in the sixth on an RBI ground out from Dominick Callegari (Kings Park, NY) to cut the deficit to 6-3.  Briarcliffe then recorded two more runs in the seventh to round out the scoring.

Mercy will return to action on Saturday, May 5, with an East Coast Conference (ECC) doubleheader at Queens College beginning at Noon.
