Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fifth, Mercy (2-29, 2-15 ECC) scored four runs as Tesoriero and Dern each collected two-run singles.  Dowling (16-15, 11-7 ECC) got one back in the bottom half, but the Flyers struck for four more runs in the sixth to take an 8-2 lead.  Freshman short stop Justin Muscarella (Plainedge, NY), sophomore second baseman Ken Mundy (Valley Stream, NY), Tesoriero, and Dern each knocked in runs in the inning as Mercy sent nine men to the plate.

The Flyers added two more in the seventh on a two-run single from junior Dominick Callegari (Kings Park, NY), stretching the lead to 10-2. Dowling then sent 11 men to the plate in the bottom of the frame, taking advantage of three errors to score seven runs and cut the deficit to 10-9.

The two teams traded runs in the eighth inning and Dowling tied the contest with two out in the ninth, before Chris Caputo led off the bottom of the 10th with a solo home run to lift the Golden Lions to the win.

Senior right hander Brad Lozano (Miami, FL) worked the first 6 1/3 innings for Mercy, allowing five earned runs. Richard Barry earned the win for Dowling, tossing two innings of perfect relief.

The Flyers will return to action on Tuesday, April 24, with a non-conference game at Nyack College.
